WSD has learned that Beam Global is switching Wolfschmidt and Kamchatka vodkas to "Vodka Liqueurs."
Using 10% sugar and 49% wine, this allows the products to sell at a lower price and may bring a new level of competition to the already competitive vodka category.
The new products are reportedly launching May 1.
"Beam's value-for-money vodkas are benefiting from updated packaging, as well as a new liquid formulation that delivers the same value and taste profile consumers of these products already love. Vodka is still the base, blended with a high-proof liqueur.
Beam is the market leader in liqueurs, and this vodka with premium liqueur formulation simply extends our leadership and expertise to enhance our value vodka brands, Kamchatka and Wolfschmidt.
Testing indicates consumers of these brands will respond favorably to the refreshed packaging. Given the high quality of the liquid in these brands, we do not expect the selling price of these products to materially change," Clarkson Hine, svp of corporate communications, told WSD.

This is a big rip off! Kamchatka is sold as vodka in stores and bars as vodka, not a liqueur. I hope the ATF will crack down on this. Be aware of what you buy. The small print lets them get away with this. This is just wrong!
ReplyDeleteSneaky and taste like @#$%.
ReplyDeleteJust bought some not knowing about the change and said "what the hell", taste like crap. Won't be buying again.
ReplyDeleteThey got me too - kept wondering what the funny taste was so I googled it and ended up here
ReplyDeletegrosss as hell!! been wondering wat the hell was goin on uuuuuuuuhhhhhhh....I been spending 120 per month on this shit for 10 years...how dare them fkn gross
ReplyDeleteSober much
DeleteNot much of an announcement for this either, sucks that they changed it up on us without any warning
ReplyDeleteThey mention that consumers will "Respond favorably" and by the looks of it, the change is not favored. Thank you all for your responses to this, I was generally curious as to how this has been blowing over with Wolfschmidt & Kamchatka fans.
ReplyDeleteWe will be starting to review different spirits regularly in the coming months, please stay tuned and be sure to

I agree that it should have been made known to the public, but I happen to LOVE the liqeuer vodka. I actually seeked it out after Bellows stopped making it.
DeleteNot terrible, but I wasn't expecting the taste. At least it's still 80 proof, I guess.
Deletei'm a rot-gut vodka drinker but it won't be Kamchatka from now on.
ReplyDeleteIll second that.
DeleteWolfschmidt Vodka has been my favorite for many, many years! I just purchased two 1.75 liter bottles @ 13.99 each. I poured my first drink tonight and thought my 'mix' had gone bad, so I dumped the drink, opened up a new can of 'mix'....same story!
ReplyDeleteI'm writing the parent company immediately (BEAM) to let them know what I think of their choice to change their product without any advance notice to customers at the retail level.
"Using 10% sugar and 49% wine, allows the products to sell at a lower price and may bring a new level of competition to the already competitive vodka category." is pure 'BULLSHIT' and I'll tell them that!
What were you people thinking, this tastes like putrid swill. I will never purchase another bottle.
ReplyDeleteKamchatka is terrible fake vodka. I bought it because I always buy the cheapest in the store, $7.96 for a 1.75, how could I pass that up? I will next time. Yuk!
ReplyDeleteIt tastes like watered down tequila mixed with vodka. Very unpleasant even as a mixer.
ReplyDeleteAn extensive comment ( to say it was terrible) But where did it go?
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer. What liquor is in it. Ruined my dirty martini. Will not buy again.
ReplyDeleteAgree with ALL the above comments!! It is AWFUL!!!!
ReplyDeleteNothing new to say... Simply horrible. Who would mix wine and vodka? That's like mixing beer and milk or something. And then to put it in the tiny print. I wouldn't mix it with oil and feed it to a chain saw.
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible. I thought it was just vodka. I finally got the bottle out and noticed the liquer. It shouldn't even be put on the shelf next to the regular vodka.

ReplyDeleteOh their all Dead On! New KamCaca has a nasty sweet & low aftertaste..Fck'n Gross! I umped the 1st drink out thinkin my mixer was bad, it was Not! It will be Back to UV 4 ME... They dont misrepresent their product!
ReplyDeleteWe may be drunks, but we know what we want in our glass, & We Want Vodka!!!
I just bought a bottle of this, thinking I was buying pure vodka. I mixed it with orange juice, and it tastes funny. Then I Googled this brand and ended up here. I feel like I've been ripped off, and will never buy this brand again.
ReplyDeleteI drink my vodka straight--I cant believe theres a mixer on the planet that could cover up the "taste" of this--Bought it by accident and thought--what in heven and hell IS this???--does the government KNOW they are making this?? Does anyone on the planet know they are making this?? You'd have to mix it with gasoline...
ReplyDeleteI was going to buy my goto Burnetts Vodka. But bought this because of the very low price. It tastes like the vodka was filtered through pine cones. Its horrible. It smells horrible. Ill never again buy another product from this company again.
ReplyDeleteSeriously... What is this? Is it made with rotten potatoes and putrid tequila? "Premium Liqueur" and Vodka? "Premium"? Really? Well, it smells like imma get sick off it. Eat it Kamchatka. Ill never, ever, ever, buy another one of your products. It doesnt even mix with lime.. WHAT VODKA CANT MIX WITH LIME? This shouldn't be in the vodka section. ITS NOT REAL VODKA!! DONT EVER BUY!
ReplyDeleteThank GOD for Crystal Palace....ANYTHING but this shit!
ReplyDeleteI knew something was different, as in wrong...In your mouth, it feels thick, slippery, a little sweet...It's not really VODKA.
ReplyDeleteAre there two different labels on the bottles? I bought some Wolfschmidt yesterday and the label says nothing about liqueur. It tastes like vodka to me in my martini. Can't imagine I wouldn't notice if it wasn't all grain spirits.
ReplyDeleteI mix my vodka with club soda and lime, I kept tasting something funny, taste a strong vanilla hint, looked at the bottle and says liquore, but it's saying it's unflavored! Bull shit! If I wanted to taste vanilla I would have bought flavored! How is this shit 80%
ReplyDeleteWish I would have read the bottle. If anyone wants to cut down on drinking, this is the way. I’m a daily vodka drinker and I could barely choke this shit down. All of the above references to gasoline and bad tequila are spot on!
